About M.Tech

NIFTEM offers M.Tech Programmes in five different discipline:

  1. Food Supply Chain Management: Masters in Food Supply Chain Management is a unique concept of NIFTEM with an idea to generate talented, resourceful and a practical oriented workforce meeting the demands of Indian Industries. The course curriculum has been designed to address the real time issues which include case studies, class room discussions and virtual modeling. The professionals are shaped to excel in technical and management skills as demanded by the industries. The idea of the program is to impart the knowledge of perishable and non-perishables supply chain, with emphasis on managing the losses incurred in current scenario. Also, it helps in understanding the importance of quality, price, shelf life of products and gap between demand and supply of the consumables. It also comprises of basic food knowledge at every level from farm to fork. The perfect blend of science, technology, management and entrepreneurial attributes makes the students ready to take up the challenges of the industries.
  2. Food Safety and Quality Management: Food Safety and Quality Management is the first initiative of its kind by NIFTEM to generate pioneering techno-managers in the field of food safety, food security and quality assurance. Food safety has become a critical factor that needs to be addressed and ensured in global food markets. With India being in an infant era of risk assessment, food biotechnology, microbiological source tracking, public health and food security; this particular program of NIFTEM focuses on imparting applied knowledge of these fields encompassing food safety laws and regulations on national and global front.
  3. Food Process Engineering and Management: The program aims to produce world class food engineers equipped with all necessary tools to handle the problems of food industry. The program is designed to promote the growth of the food processing industry in India in the global context by mechanization and automation, engineering intervention for transforming agriculture into food processing industries and motivating entrepreneurship for promoting food processing sector.
  4. Food Technology and Management: The program aims at promoting innovations in food sector and catalyzing the growth of Food Processing Industry in India in global context. Apart from imparting world-class education in the field of food science and technology, the program also aims encompasses cutting edge research in front-line areas of Food Science and Technology.
  5. Food Plant Operations Management: Food Plant Operations Management is a unique program designed to cater the needs of food processing industry. It involves a unique blend of food technology and operations management to foster improvement in production processes of food industry. It deals with the design and management of products, processes and services. It considers the acquisition, development, and utilization of resources that firms need to deliver the goods and services, their clients want. The purview of Food Plant Operations Management ranges from strategic to tactical and operational levels. Representative strategic issues include determining the size and location of food manufacturing plants, deciding the structure of service or production system.Tactical issues include plant layout and structure, project management methods, and equipment selection and replacement. Operational issues include production scheduling and control, inventory management, quality control and inspection, traffic and materials handling, and equipment maintenance policies. The students are exposed to advanced lean manufacturing and operation optimizing techniques. Students Industry Linkages

In order to have a strong corporate connect to facilitate corporate resources; the institute has created a Corporate Resource Division. In addition to this, the institute has notified the actualization policy for industrial internship for M.Tech. students for the year 2013-14. All students of M.Tech. programme (all five disciplines) are required to undergo a compulsory industrial attachment for entire 3rd semester. Students Visit Abroad

In an innovative approach to achieve excellence in academics, NIFTEM organizes one of its flagship program i.e., International Students Exchange Program by sending its meritorious undergraduate and post graduate students to different universities of world repute. Undergraduate students are exposed to best of teaching environment and research facilities in those universities. Postgraduate students, apart from this, are also exposed to most advance researches that are being undertaken in the area of food science and technology by active participation. Admission Process

NIFTEM offers five uniquely designed Post Graduate Programs, each being catered by one of the academic department at NIFTEM. These Post Graduates Programs leading to two years regular M.Tech. degree are:

  1. M.Tech. in Food Technology and Management (FTM).
  2. M.Tech. in Food Process Engineering and Management (FPEM).
  3. M.Tech. in Food Plant Operations and Management (FPOM).
  4. M.Tech. in Food Safety and Quality Management (FSQM).
  5. M.Tech. in Food Supply Chain Management (FSCM). Read More

Scholarship and Fellowship

1. Fellowship to GATE Qualified Candidates: 

  • As per prescribed qualification for admission to the M.Tech. program of NIFTEM, the applicant should have a valid GATE score and candidates having GATE score are preferred over non GATE students.
  • GATE qualified candidates are provided a scholarship/assistantship admissible to them for studying M.Tech. programs at different technical institutions like IITs, NITs and other AICTE approved engineering institutions.
  • Funds for granting this scholarship/fellowship is given by AICTE to the AICTE approved institution.
  • AICTE offers various financial assistance schemes and PG scholarship is one of them.
  • The details of scheme are placed at the website of AICTE. Accordingly valid GATE scorers are eligible for scholarship @ Rs. 8000/- per month.

2. NIFTEM’s own scholarships to students admitted in M.Tech. courses

The Board of Management in its 9th Meeting held on 20.03.2012 approved creation of a Scholarship Fund in NIFTEM by apportioning 5% of its Revenue Income for grant of following scholarships:

  • NIFTEM Merit Scholarship: The scholarship is given to one student on merit in each of the program of M.Tech. Merit Scholarship is paid during the period of second semester. There after toppers of first year will be awarded scholarship for next year and subsequent years according to the toppers of each year. It includes tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for ten months.
  • NIFTEM Merit-cum-Means Scholarship: Institute merit-cum-means scholarship is awarded to M.Tech. students of the institute strictly on merit-cum- means basis for needy students having family  annual income from all sources not exceeding Rs.2,50,000/-. 5% students will be considered for award of scholarship i.e. six students in M.Tech. (one each in all the five streams). It includes tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for ten months. Read More

Village Adoption

The performance of the student in the Village Adoption Program will be evaluated at the end of the semester. In first two semesters of M.Tech. the village adoption evaluation shall be based on a village visits and presentation of the activities done in the village by the concerned student group. The grades of village adoption shall be awarded by the ‘Mentor’ of the concerned student group. Read More
