NIFTEM offers a full time programme leading to a Bachelor's degree in Food Science and Technology. This programme includes a rare blend of technology and management courses, whereby the goal is to produce graduates who are techno-managers of tomorrow. The course has been started on the demand of industries, so that NIFTEM graduates can handle both the technical and the managerial issues in food industry. Students are admitted to this programme through IIT JEE (Main) merit list and the programme is very competitive.
NIFTEM offers B.Tech degree programme in Food Technology and Management. The duration of the course is for four years divided into two semesters per year.
Each programme of NIFTEM is a unique blend of technology and management so curriculum provides ample opportunities to students to be groomed as a techno-manager. Curriculum is benchmarked through global experts from academics, industries and research.
BAS 100: Introduction to Biosciences (3-0-0 | Credit: 3 | Contact Hours: 3)
Students who have not studied biology at qualifying examination level will compulsorily undergo this course. Grades will be awarded as Satisfactory(S)/Unsatisfactory(US).

# All students will compulsorily undertake visit to a cluster of food industry in country for 8-10 days duration and will submit a report of visit.
* All students will compulsorily undergo Industrial Training for 22-24 weeks in a food industry approved by the Institute. Students will be evaluated based on industry performance reports and presentation.
** Major Project: Students will undertake an independent research project under faculty supervision. The project should demonstrate application of knowledge gained throughout the program and contribute to food science and technology field.
Final semester includes comprehensive evaluation through project presentation, viva voce examination, and assessment of overall academic performance across all eight semesters.
The performance of the student in the Village Adoption Programme will be evaluated at the end of the semester. In all semesters of B.Tech the village adoption evaluation shall be based on a village visits and presentation of the activities done in the village by the concerned student group. The grades of village adoption shall be awarded by the 'Mentor' of the concerned student group.
Conceptualization of Village Adoption Programme for students with a view to make them aware of rural India and sensitize them about overall agricultural practices and food crops.
The aim is to help the Indian food processing sector to accomplish its objective of all inclusive growth and integrating with rural and under-privileged sections of our population.

The curriculum for B.Tech The course includes two compulsory industrial trainings of 4-6 weeks duration carrying 1 credit each, to be carried out in the summer vacation at the end of the fourth and sixth semester, respectively. Any arrangement of training in industry or academia (within or outside the country) has to be routed through Training Placement Section via the faculty in charge of the training of the respective department. A student after being selected in an organization by Training Placement Section cannot out of his training from that organization under any circumstances. The allotment of training programs for all students by the Training Placement Section will be frozen by a suitable and fixed deadline each year. No further change will be entertained under any circumstances.
The performance of the student in the industrial training will be evaluated based on his submission of a certificate from the organization of his training followed by a combined viva-voce/presentation and evaluation of the write-up/report. The grades of Industrial Training shall be awarded on the following basis:
Candidates who have passed their class 12th exam and should have qualified JEE(Mains) – 2021.
Admission will be done through JEE (Main) – 2021. Eligible candidates will fill out the application form for JEE (Main) – 2021. Subsequently, counseling will be done by JoSAA/CSAB-2021. All candidates are advised to refer to website of JEE (Main)–2021 (www.jeemain.nic.in) and CSAB -2021/JoSAA-2021 (www.csab.nic.in) for further details.
Note: In case seats from JoSAA/CSAB remains vacant, Institute may fill those seats through own counseling. The eligibility conditions and other relevant rules will be communicated on institute website after JoSAA/CSAB counseling is over.
The merit list will be prepared purely based on the All India Rank of JEE (Main) – 2021 of the eligible applicants. Counseling for admission will be done by NIFTEM admission cell at NIFTEM campus, Kundli, Sonepat, Haryana only.

The evaluation of the final year project of B.Tech shall be done at the end of the 7th and 8th semesters by an Under-graduate Project Committee, recommended by Dean (Academics), and approved by the Director, NIFTEM.
In an innovative approach to achieving excellence in academics, NIFTEM organizes one of its flagship programmes i.e., International Students Exchange Programme by sending its meritorious undergraduate and post-graduate students to different universities of world repute. Undergraduate students are exposed to the best of teaching environment and research facilities in those universities. Postgraduate students, apart from this, are also exposed to the most advanced research that is being undertaken in the area of food science and technology by active participation. Thus international student exchange programme actually helps students to broaden their horizons of knowledge.

In the academic year 2012-2013, students from NIFTEM visited the University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL), USA, Kansas State University (KSU), USA, and the University of Saskatchewan (USC), Canada. Based on the student's academic performance eight B. Tech first year and three M. Tech. first-year students of different disciplines visited UNL for 7 days and 19 days (24th July 2013 to 2nd August and 24th July 2013 to 11th August), respectively accompanied by two of the NIFTEM faculty members. Similarly four and two M. Tech. first-year students of NIFTEM along with one NIFTEM faculty have visited KSU and USC, respectively, for 19 days from 24th July 2013 to 11th August. During this visit B. Tech. students have attended lectures by faculties who are revered worldwide and visited various academic labs, food industries, and agricultural farms associated closely with those universities. While M. Tech. students were also exposed to similar activities along with their hands-on experience with the various ongoing research activities in their concerned Universities.

The Institute will offer the following types of scholarships to its B.Tech (FTM) Students:
The scholarship is given to the first 3 students on a merit scholarship and would be paid during the second semester. Thereafter toppers of the first year will be awarded scholarships for the next year and subsequent years accordingly only to the toppers of each year. It includes a tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for ten months.
Institute merit-cum-means scholarship is awarded to B.Tech students of the institute strictly on merit-cum- means the basis for needy students having family annual income from all sources not exceeding Rs.2,50,000/-. 5% of students will be considered for the award of scholarship i.e. six students in B.Tech (one each in all five streams). It includes a tuition fee waiver and a fixed monthly stipend for ten months.
