Food Engineering

Established in the year 2012, Department of Food Engineering is one of the prime departments of NIFTEM. The main objective of the department is to create trained and skilled human resources to cater to the needs of the rapidly growing food processing sectors. Apart from offering various courses in B.Tech. (Food Technology and Management), the department offers M.Tech. degree programme in Food Process Engineering and Management (FPEM) and Ph.D. programme in Food Engineering.

The department strives to be the first choice of students as a centre for integrated education, research and enterprise incubation in the area of food engineering, food process engineering and technology.

Mission

  • 1To develop globally competitive processes and technologies in the area of food engineering.
  • 2To carry out R and D in frontier areas of food processing, resolving industrial problems and assist the government in policy making on food processing.
  • 3To offer courses and training programmes of global standards on food engineering.
  • 4To offer continual training to the budding entrepreneurs/industry to enhance skills and be updated on global trends in food research and technology.

Mandate

To develop energy-efficient, eco-friendly food processing technologies and automation-driven precision control systems to enhance quality, safety, and efficiency while minimizing environmental impact and promoting by-product valorization for a sustainable circular economy
